Red Rose Awards Finalists

We’re thrilled to share the exciting news that Unique Kidz and Co. has been shortlisted for the Not-for-profit Award at the Red Rose Awards 2024!

We have been nominated for the Not-for-profit category – which celebrates businesses and organisations dedicated to social impact – because of our commitment to providing children and young people with disabilities from across North Lancashire with access to high-quality support activities, play, and social opportunities.

This week, our founders Jane and Denise – who created Unique Kidz and Co in 2009 after struggling to find suitable childcare for their own disabled children – had an exciting afternoon at Burnley Football Club. The pair were interviewed by the Red Rose Awards judges and showcased the incredible work of Unique Kidz and Co.

Since our charity opened 15 years ago, the organisation has become a lifeline, providing crucial support for young people with disabilities and their families in Lancashire.

With 187 young people on our register and an ever-increasing waiting list, in the last decade and a half our services have grown significantly. From after school club and holiday club care, we now also offer stay and play sessions, sibling groups, youth groups, and a 4ever Unique provision for young adults with disabilities aged 18-30.

Jane Halpin, co-founder of Kidz and Co added: “Being shortlisted for the Not-for-profit Award at the Red Rose Awards 2024 feels incredible. It’s testament to the commitment of the entire Unique Kidz team in creating an accessible and safe space for children and young people with disabilities, and their families, to access invaluable social and play activities, support, and respite care in Lancashire over the past 15 years.”

Denise Armer, co-founder of Unique Kidz and Co said: “We have big plans at Unique Kidz and Co in our 15th year, with the proposed development of our building and outside spaces. This would allow us to take on more disabled young people, expand our services, and provide more meaningful activities and opportunities, so we hope that through this nomination we can continue to raise awareness and funds for this project.”

We can’t wait to celebrate our nomination with all the other brilliant organisations in the county at the awards ceremony on Thursday 14th March at Winter Gardens, Blackpool! Fingers crossed for the results!
